My daughter (9) received one of these, and she’s crazy about it. Don’t expect zooms or a LCD viewfinder. BUT, the camera is adequate and actually good for the price, and it comes with a USB interface, so it’s plug-and-play. What’s really great about this camera is the software that comes with it. With no previous exposure to editing software at all, within a few hours Elizabeth was producing great video presentations complete with wipes, fades, voice-overs, special effects, backgroud music, and really, it was fun watching her show.

I wish my pro-editing software was a easy to use as hers (perhaps I’ll steal it).

I bought this product for my 9 and 11 year old children two years ago for Christmas, and I must say, it has been their favorite toy ever since. The software that comes with it is easy to use and enables the youngsters to really explore the basics of film. You would be amazed at the level of content that they are able to produce for only $100. The quality of film is so-so, but it’s a real bargain compared to high-end digital camcorders that go for thousands. Besides, you wouldn’t let your 11 year old kid use the family camcorder anyway. This is a great, economical product that your children will have fun with all year ’round.

My daughter (10 1/2) made a couple of cute movies with her friends, but she soon became bored with the limited features available. The images take up a lot of memory on my computer, and they take forever to copy to disk for some reason. We bought this last year just after Intel stopped supporting it, so there was no technical assistance and we couldn’t access any online clips. Digital Blue made my daughter interested in doing more – she even joined the TV news team at her school. But it just collects dust at this point.
